Ogidi Hall of Fame

Chief Gabriel Bayode Mesaiyete, FCIPM, MNIM, Oono of Ogidiland.

Born in Ogidi-Ijumu on Friday, February 27, 1942, to the family of the late High Chief Phillip Mesaiyete Olonijolu (High Chief Oono of Ogidiland) and the late Princess Veronica Abowu Olonijolu (of Okelare Ruling House), Chief Mesaiyete was on the 8th day named Bayode, for bringing joy to his middle-aged father, who had been married for about 15 years without a child. A week later, on March 13, 1942, the young Bayode was baptized in the Catholic Church with the name Gabriel. He has since remained a committed Catholic.

Otunba Suleiman Olanrenwaju Ipinmisho, MFR, Asiwaju Ogidi

Otunba Suleiman Olanrewaju Ipinmisho was born in Ogidi on July 8, 1962. He attended Ansaruldeen Primary School, Ogidi and the famous Offa Grammar School from where he obtained the West African Schools Certificate in 1982.

The Late Dr. Alfred Ajayi Owonubi

The late Dr Alfred Ajayi Owonubi was born in 1938 to the family of Chief Melaye Owonubi and Madam Comfort Omosola Owonubi of Idawero clan, Ogidi. He started elementary school at St Michael’s Primary School, Ogidi and proceeded to St Mary’s Primary School, Kabba, where he completed his primary education.

PA Michael Olorunmaiye Adeyinka

Pa Michael Olorunmaiye, who a friend used to call The Gentle Giant in his younger days, was born in Okoro, Ogidi to the family of the late Jacob Obamila and the late Madam Abigail Oliyeyo on November 10, 1925.

The Late Chief Zachaeus Ademola Oloruntoyin, Olumorin of Ijumu

Chief Zacchaeus Ademola Oloruntoyin, popularly called by his acronym, ZA, was born in Ogidi on August 15, 1939. After his primary education at St John’s School, Ogidi, he attended Government College, Okene, now Abdul Azeez Attah Memorial College, Okene for his West African Schools Certificate and the prestigious Kings College, Lagos where he obtained his Higher School Certificate in 1961. The Late Chief Samuel Aliu Ajayi, OFR, Balogun of Ogidi

The late Chief Samuel Aliu Ajayi, Balogun of Ogidi was born in 1910. His transformation into adulthood was swift, eventful and punctuated by remarkable twists of fate. He left his biological parents at a very tender age on the insistence of his uncle, Pa David Ajayi, a World War I veteran who later settled in Ovim in today’s Abia State as a railway worker. Pa Ajayi’s family integrated the young Samuel into their household. The elderly Ajayi was quick to discern the intelligence and high sense of industry of the youngster under his watch.

Chief Abiodun A. Ehindero, Oliha of Ono-Ogidi, and Baale of Idawero

Born on New Year’s Day in 1942 to the late Pa Cyril and Mrs. Omoseke Ehindero, Chief Abiodun Alphonsus Ehindero attended St Michael’s Junior Primary School, Ogidi from 1947-53. He proceeded to St Mary’s Catholic Senior Primary School, Kabba in 1954 and graduated with the First School Leaving Certificate the following year.

Chief (Mrs.) Oyenike Monica Okundaye, Yeye Oba of Ogidi.

If there is a classic case of the uncanny ability of man’s spirit to overcome adverse situations and circumstances, the life of Chief (Mrs.) Monica Okundaye illustrates it.

 

Born on May 23, 1951, Nike, as she is fondly called all over the world attended St. Michael’s Primary School, Ogidi but her education terminated in Primary 6 because of lack of funds.

Reverend Martin Olorunfemi Oloruntimehin Ogbonnewo

The Very Reverend Martin Olorunfemi Oloruntimehin Ogbonnewo was born on September 30, 1930 to the late Chief Olowodasa Ogbonnewo (Balogun Obawa) of Okoro, Ogidi and Madam Abigail Tolunetan of Okelare, both in Ogidi.

Mallam Isah Juwon Olorunfemi, Chief Imam of Ogidi

Born in Ogidi on October 23, 1961, Mallam Isah Juwon Olorunfemi attended St John’s Primary School from where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate in 1977. That paved way for his entry into Oluyori Muslim Comprehensive High School, Isanlu. Having obtained his West African Schools Certificate in 1988, the Division of Agricultural Colleges, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria was the next port of call and he successfully completed his training there, emerging with the National Diploma in Agricultural Engineering in 1992.

Prophet Samuel Ayodele Olayinka

Prophet Samuel Ayodele Olayinka was born on April 10, 1940 into the family of the late Chief Emmanuel Olayinka Olokoro, the Clan Head of Ohi Ogidi at Ileteju Quarters, Ogidi in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
